“For the first time in the organization’s history, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Players’ Association is on strike,” write Brett Stover and Corey McMakenin in Friday’s (12/9) Journal Gazette (Fort Wayne, IN). “The union announced the work stoppage Thursday afternoon after a day full of negotiations with the philharmonic’s management and performing for more than three months without a contract…. The two sides have come to agreements on other parts of the contract, including working conditions and scheduling … so the major disagreement now is on wages…. Although no cancellations had been announced by Thursday evening, the strike could affect one or more concerts…. The most recent bargaining agreement was made in May 2021 after about two years of contract negotiations … The musicians have been performing under the terms of that contract since it expired Sept. 1.”
