The Garden State Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a program of music by living and historical women composers on its November 7 program at the Spring Lake Community Theatre in Spring Lake, New Jersey. The chamber program will feature an all-female ensemble of string musicians from the orchestra: Funda Cizmecioglu, Diana Golden, Krisztina Kiss, and Gabriela Rengel. Repertoire will include Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel’s String Quartet in E-flat Major, along with works by Florence Price, Grazyna Bacewicz, and Gabriela Lena Frank. Diane Wittry is music director of the Garden State Philharmonic, comprising professional musicians from New Jersey and New York; in addition to regular performances at the Grunin Center for the Arts in Toms River and at Spring Lake Community Theatre, the organization runs a youth orchestra and youth chorus and hosts free community concerts and open rehearsals.
