Hae Lee has been named associate conductor of the Richmond Symphony and conductor of the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Hae Lee has been appointed to two positions at Virginia’s Richmond Symphony: associate conductor of the Richmond Symphony, and conductor of the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra. He will join the organization in July. Born in Korea, Hae Lee was the second-prize winner of the Kussewitzky Conducting Competition in Italy and finalist of the Besançon Conducting Competition in France. In the U.S., he served as a cover conductor of Marin Alsop for concerts in March 2022 with the American Composers Orchestra and in October 2022 with the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra. In South Korea, he participated in masterclasses with Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Korean National Symphony Orchestra, and Korea National Opera. In Europe, he has conducted Orchestre National d’Île-de-France, Orchestre Dijon Bourgogne, Orchestre Victor Hugo, and Orchestra Sinfonica Città di Grosseto. He received a B.A. in Conducting from the Korea National University of Arts, and holds a Master of Music from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. At the Richmond Symphony, Lee succeeds former Associate Conductor Chia-Hsuan Lin, who completes her seven-year term this season, and becomes principal guest conductor beginning in July 2024. Valentina Peleggi is the Richmond Symphony’s music director.
