The Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Dane Lam will perform at a concert on August 20 to raise funds for the island of Maui, which has suffered devastating wildfires.
On Sunday, August 20, the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra will perform at “Maui Ola: A Benefit Concert for Maui” that will raise funds to support communities on the island of Maui, which recently suffered devastating wildfires. Other musical artists scheduled to appear include some of Hawaiʻi’s most celebrated performers, among them Hawaiian Style Band, Pure Heart, Jerry Santos, Raiatea Helm, Paula Fuga, Kimie Miner, Anuhea, Del Beazley, and musicians and cultural practitioners with meaningful ties to Maui. The concert will take place at the Waikiki Shell on Oahu and will be broadcast live on virtually all of Hawaiʻi’s media outlets, including television, radio, and online platforms. The live broadcast will also feature performances from the “Maui Ola” in-person concert on Hawaiʻi Island, which will take place at the Parker Ranch Shopping Center. 100 percent of the proceeds will support Maui’s severely impacted communities through donation portals including Maui United Way, Hawaiʻi Community Foundation, Hawaiʻi People’s Fund, and the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement. In addition, Cheryl Lindley, executive director of the Maui Pops Orchestra, suggests that anyone who wishes to help Maui consider donating to the Hawaii Community Foundation and Maui United Way, where 100% of the money received goes directly to the cause.
