The Hilton Head Symphony in South Carolina has announced twenty pianists to compete in its 2016 Hilton Head International Piano Competition from March 7 to 14. At the finals on March 14, John Morris Russell will lead a concert featuring the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra and three finalists. The twenty pianists in this year’s competition are Gerard Aimontche (Russia), Alexander Bernstein (U.S.), Albert Cano Smit (Spain), Sung Chang (Korea), SaeYoon Chon (Korea), Yui Fushiki (Japan), Heejun Han (Korea), Yukyeong Ji (Korea), Carter Johnson (Canada/ U.S.), Fantee Jones (U.S.), Daniel Le (Australia), Brian Lin (China), Victor Maslov (Russia), Meagan Milatz (Canada), Liana Paniyeva (Ukraine), ChangYonng Shin (Korea), Hannah Sun (Australia), Tristan Teo (Canada), Reed Tetzloff (U.S.) and Gvantsa Zangaladze (Republic of Georgia). This year’s competitors were chosen from 180 applicants from 36 countries, the highest number since the competition was founded in 1996. The competition will take place at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina and First Presbyterian Church in Hilton Head. Winners receive a total of $34,000 in prize money, plus the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall in November.
