“Houston Grand Opera won’t resume live, in-person performances until fall 2021,” writes Olivia Pulsinelli in Wednesday’s (11/4) Houston Business Journal. “The decision to cancel the remaining mainstage productions for the 2020–21 season was made after carefully weighing options in light of recommendations from global health leaders…. In June, HGO canceled 33 of its planned 47 performances [and] said it would cut its staff by 27%. Those who remained, including top officials, would take a 15% salary reduction or have their hours reduced to a level that accounts for the shorter production schedule. The latest announcement does not mention additional cuts. The June announcement canceled in-person productions until spring 2021…. In lieu of live performances, the opera will extend HGO Digital … through June 2021. That series was announced in August and is supported by a $1 million pledge … The gift supports both Houston Grand Opera and Austin Opera … HGO will continue its partnership with Marquee TV, an on-demand streaming platform, for the rest of the HGO Digital season.”
