Members of the ISO Symphony of the InterSchool Orchestras of New York found themselves on the USA Network’s medical comedy-drama Royal Pains on July 17. The series, featuring a concierge doctor’s practice in the Hamptons, N.Y., required the youth orchestra’s musicians to stand in for a fictional orchestra whose conductor is one of the patients-of-the-week in the current season’s fifth episode, “Vertigo.” The ISO Symphony gave live performances of Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, and Rimsky-Korsakov, excerpts of which can be heard on the episode’s soundtrack. ISO musicians took part in three days of taping, both in a Brooklyn studio and on location on Long Island. The entire program can be downloaded at www.usanetwork.com, Amazon.com, or iTunes. The ISO Symphony of the InterSchool Orchestras is headed by Executive Director Waddy Thompson and Artistic Director Jeffrey Grogan.
