“The Brooklyn Academy of Music has turned to the orchestra world for its next leader. The arts center on Thursday said that Katy Clark, the executive director of the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, will become its next president, effective June 30,” writes Brian Wise on Thursday (4/9) at New York radio station WQXR’s website. “Clark, 46, a classically trained violinist from Wales who played with the BBC Symphony Orchestra during the 1990s, will succeed Karen Brooks Hopkins…. She brings experience in managing a large performance facility. Since 2011, St. Luke’s has overseen the DiMenna Center for Classical Music, a 20,000-square-foot concert and rehearsal facility in Hell’s Kitchen…. At BAM, Clark will oversee an organization whose $54 million annual budget is more than seven times that of St. Luke’s…. Clark will oversee 248 full-time employees (St. Luke’s has about 20 staffers listed on its website). Clark came to arts administration in the late 1990s after a career as a violinist. She became St. Luke’s director of development in 2005, moving her way up to executive director in 2010.… Clark will work alongside Joseph V. Melillo, BAM’s longtime executive producer, who oversees artistic programming.” Clark is a graduate of the League of American Orchestras’ Orchestra Management Fellowship program.
