In Thursday’s (11/21) Myrtle Beach Sun-News (South Carolina), Steve Palisin writes, “ ‘Sunny and 75’ might not just be Joe Nichols’ latest hit on country radio; those words could apply to a celebration Friday night in Myrtle Beach to benefit the Long Bay Symphony. ‘Good Bye to 75,’ 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, will commemorate the end of the city of Myrtle Beach’s 75th anniversary celebration, all to let people look back at yesteryear to see the culture and traditions that made this area.… B.J. Thomas, a co-founder, past president and a board member for the Long Bay Symphony, has coordinated this affair.… Thomas said she remembered when Long Bay Symphony, now in its 26th season, was formed ‘with 35 local musicians unpaid’ and a youth orchestra began with five members. She also sees ‘our country turning back to classical music’ and that Long Bay wants to continue that education and appreciation of great works. Charles Jones Evans, Long Bay’s music director and conductor … called this concept great, especially how the city and chamber see the symphony—like the area, which continues growing—as ‘part of this whole picture.’ ”
