In Sunday’s (1/27) Courier-Journal (Louisville, Kentucky), Elizabeth Kramer writes, “This season, the Louisville Orchestra has been operating under a one-year contract with its musicians after a bitter labor dispute between the administration and musicians that had silenced the music since early 2011. Today, the orchestra announces the 2013-14 concerts in its classics series, which will include six guest conductors, and the launch of a search for a music director to succeed Jorge Mester. The season will open with guest artist and renowned pianist Emanuel Ax playing what the orchestra calls its ‘Fanfara’ concert. … In October, the Japan-born violinist Midori, who last appeared with the orchestra in 1991, will play Brahms’ Violin Concerto in D. Members of the Emerson Quartet will play solos in a March concert. … The board of directors has extended Mester’s contract until 2016 to give itself time to review candidates, although board member Andrew Fleischman said the organization has no set list of candidates yet. ‘It’s not a search we have announced, and no conductors have applied, but all the people we have booked for this season and next season are people we could be interested in,’ said Fleischman, a member of the search committee for a new music director.” The list of guest conductors includes Robert Moody, Noam Zur, Rossen Milanov, Julian Kuerti, Teddy Abrams, and Marcelo Lehninger.
