Music Director Elizabeth Schulze will lead the Maryland Symphony Orchestra in the world premiere of Flourishes, a piano concerto commissioned from pianist-composer Michael Brown, at the orchestra’s November 8 concert at the Maryland Theatre in Hagerstown, Maryland. Brown—first-prize winner of the 2010 Concert Artists Guild Competition—will perform as soloist in his own work, and will also perform as a member of the orchestra in Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 1 and as soloist in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Schulze will give a pre-concert talk before the concert about the composers and works on the program, and the orchestra will host an after-party at 28 South Restaurant, in downtown Hagerstown, which includes a meet-and-greet with Brown.
