On May 8, violinist and educator Midori will participate in a panel discussion about cultural diplomacy at Johns Hopkins University’s Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, D.C. Kent Calder, professor and director of the Reischauer Center for East Asian Studies, will moderate the discussion about how cultural diplomacy can better address today’s global challenges. The discussion is presented by Fred Bronstein, dean of Johns Hopkins University’s Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, and Vali Nasr, dean of the School of Advanced International Studies. In 1992, Midori founded the nonprofit Midori & Friends in New York City, a music education program for underserved children; her Orchestra Residencies Program consists of weeklong residencies with American orchestras.
