In the San Diego Union-Tribune, James Chute reports on Thursday (9/20) that “The San Diego Symphony has appointed Ken-David Masur as its assistant conductor, effective immediately. Masur, the artistic director of the Chelsea Music Festival in New York City, is the former assistant conductor of the Orchestre National de France. He is resident conductor of the San Antonio Symphony and was recently named Principal Guest Conductor of the Munich Symphony, starting this season. … He also studied conducting with his father, Kurt Masur, and voice with baritone Thomas Quasthoff. Most recently, he was the Seiji Ozawa Conducting Fellow at Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony. Masur will share the podium Saturday with music director Jahja Ling in the orchestra’s season-opening gala at Copley Symphony Hall and is expected to conduct the orchestra’s Family Festival series, its youth concerts, and to back up Ling.”
