RICHARD LONSDORF has been named interim executive director of New Century Chamber Orchestra in San Francisco, effective immediately. Lonsdorf will lead New Century through the end of December 2020 as the organization continues its search for a permanent executive director. He succeeds Philip Wilder, who stepped down on July 31, 2020 to become president and general director of Chanticleer. For more than a decade, Lonsdorf has served on the artistic teams of orchestras including the San Francisco Symphony, New York Philharmonic, and Los Angeles Philharmonic. Some of the projects that he worked on include the San Francisco Symphony’s SoundBox series as well as its Film Series; the New York Philharmonic’s new music showcase CONTACT! and performances of Stockhausen’s Gruppen for three orchestras at the Park Avenue Amory; and several programs for the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s centennial season, including a light show featuring 300 aerial drones.
