In Tuesday’s (1/5) Brookfield Now (Wisconsin), Geoff Bruce writes that Wisconsin music teachers Benjamin Leon, Anne Marie Peterson, and Siew Eng Goh “have solidified plans for starting their new project: The Wisconsin Intergenerational Orchestra. ‘Essentially it’s a non-audition group that will vary in age from 7 to 70-plus,’ Benjamin Leon said…. Both Leon and Peterson are retired former music teachers in the Elmbrook School District and Goh has more than 25 years of experience as a private teacher in Brookfield…. The orchestra’s goal is to appeal to both veterans of string instruments as well as to offer an opportunity for those who may not have ever played in an orchestra… ‘We’re going to have two groups and two orchestras,’ Leon said. ‘One is kind of like a beginning-level orchestra and the other a more intermediate-advanced level.’ … ‘Our model is based on the New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra, and they’ve shared a lot of their experiences and a lot of their information with us,’ Leon said…. The Wisconsin Intergenerational Orchestra plans to rehearse at the Wisconsin International Academy every Tuesday starting in mid-February,” and will announce details of its first concerts in May when venues are selected.
