A report on last Monday’s (2/19) WSYR (Syracuse) states, “It was a night of music that featured a surprise at Mulroy Civic Center. The night seemed like another show for Symphoria, putting on a performance called ‘The Planets.’ ” During opening remarks, Executive Director Pamela Murchison announced Symphoria’s new name: the Syracuse Orchestra. “In the middle of the show, a statement regarding the organization’s future was read by Corey Driscoll Dunham, chief operations officer for the City of Syracuse: ‘With the performances of classical and popular music, the community is brought together through entertainment and education. And whereas the time being right to celebrate their home in Syracuse, and showing their tremendous pride in being in central New York, Symphoria will now be known as the Syracuse Orchestra.’ The name change marks the first for the orchestra in eleven years. They’ll be holding a Coronation Celebration concert on March 3.”
