The Paul R. Judy Center for Innovation and Research, a division of the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music in New York, has announced eight grant recipients for fall 2017. The projects were selected out of ninety proposals from throughout North America. Projects were awarded funding in the Research Category are Natalie Farrell (Indianapolis, IN) for Indy Classical: Hip Consumerism and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra/New Amsterdam Partnership; and Ryan Ebright (Perrysburg, OH) for New Music Theater and the New Music Ensemble. In the Innovative Project Category, these projects were awarded funding: South Dakota Symphony Orchestra (Sioux Falls, SD) for Lakota Music Project Music Composition Academies; Yarn/Wire (Queens, NY) for Yarn/Wire/Currents—Concert Series of New Works for Piano and Percussion Quartet in NYC; Zohn Collective (Rochester, NY) for Collaborative Performance in Guadalajara, Mexico with Puppet/Theater Company La Coperacha; Maria Finkelmeier, Masary Studios (Boston, MA) for Pindrop Series Concert at Aeronaut Brewery, Somerville, MA; Cantata Profana (Brooklyn, NY) for Seven Sins of Love—Theatrical Chamber Music Performances at National Sawdust; and Khemia Ensemble (Martin, TN) Immersive Concert Experience at National Sawdust. Grantees will complete their projects over the next year, with results available on the Paul R. Judy Center website.
