In Tuesday’s (4/27) Lansdale Reporter (Northern Pennsylvania), Bradley Schlegel reports, “The management arm of the Lansdale Center for the Performing Arts, which borough council president Matt West described as ill conceived, has been dissolved. Last week, the board members of the North Penn Regional Council of the Arts voted to end the non-profit organization and terminate the contract of executive director Marja Kaisla. Citing a widening budget deficit, lack of fundraising, lack of support for its programming and continued questions from borough taxpayers concerning the operation and management of the arts center, the council opted to relinquish the responsibility of managing the center’s daily operations, according to a news release from Lansdale Borough. … A performance by the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia—scheduled for Friday—has been canceled, according to interim borough Manager Timi Kirchner. She said a decision on the status of other upcoming events should be made within a couple of days. Selling the facility—located at 311 W. Main St.—is not feasible, according to West. He said the municipality has invested far too much money to consider that option. … No decision on who will run the facility’s daily operations has been made, according to West.”
