In Thursday’s (2/10) Gloucester County Times (New Jersey), Bob Shryock writes, “After 20 years as the only conductor and music director of the Philharmonic of Southern New Jersey, Philip Francis Travaline is preparing to pass the baton. The Barnsboro resident retires after the current concert season, which includes Sunday’s performance of George Gershwin’s ‘Rhapsody in Blue,’ at the Eastern High School Center for the Performing Arts in Voorhees, beginning at 3 p.m. The maestro’s finale will be the season-ending May 15 concert, also 3 p.m. at Eastern, featuring Shostakovich’s ‘Festive Overture’ and Holst’s ‘Jupiter from the Planets.’ ‘But I’m going to continue conducting, composing, and playing trumpet,’ says Maestro Travaline, one of the region’s most acclaimed and accomplished all-around musicians. … The Philharmonic, which rehearses September through May and performs four concerts a year, has played numerous premiers, accompanied world-renown soloists, and, to help highlight the millennium celebration, presented Beethoven’s ‘Symphony No. 9’ … He was former music director of the Susquehanna Valley Symphony, associate conductor and principal trumpet of the Haddonfield Symphony, has been guest conductor of the New Jersey All-State Orchestra and All-State Opera, and has conducted in five European countries.”
