In Wednesday’s (9/13) WWMT (Michigan), Anthony Silvester reports, “The Gilmore in Kalamazoo announced Wednesday that French pianist Alexandre Kantorow has been named the 2024 Gilmore Artist. Kantorow is the ninth Gilmore artist, joining a select group of pianists who were granted the award, according to The Gilmore. The anonymously juried award is made by The Gilmore every four years and comes with a $300,000 prize…. Kantorow has been described by Gramophone, a classical music review website, as a ‘fire-breathing virtuoso with a poetic charm.’ During the 16th International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2019, Kantorow won the first prize, gold medal and Grand Prix, which were awarded together only three times before in competition history.”
