On July 14, Rising Tide Music Press will offer a day-long online symposium about equity, access, and agency for Black, Brown, Indigenous, and Asian music-makers. The webinar is the inaugural community-engagement event of Rising Tide Music Press, a project by Jones Creative & Consulting that is sponsored by the arts nonprofit Fractured Atlas. Sessions will explore topics relevant to composers, educators, performers, programmers, and others in the music field. Panel discussions will include “Gatekeepers & Pathways: Making a Way out of ‘No Way,’ ” “Turning the Ship in K-12 Music Making,” and “Diversifying Your Stand.” The symposium also will include informal breakout sessions and pre-recorded performances of music by Rising Tide composers Allyssa Jones, Nyokabi Kariũki, Jolene Khor, Jasmine “Jazzie” Pigott, and Alonso Malik Pirio. Rising Tide Music Press’s mission is to support and promote the work of Black, Brown, Indigenous, and Asian musicians within the first 10 years of professional-level work as composers and arrangers.
