On February 26, the South Bend Symphony Orchestra will perform Kinan Azmeh’s Suite for Improvisor and Orchestra, featuring Azmeh as clarinet soloist. The work features a “quasi-improvisatory clarinet solo parlaying motivic material indigenous to Syria,” Azmeh’s homeland, according to a press release. Also on the program are Lili Boulanger’s D’un Matin de Printemps, Alexander Borodin’s In the Steppes of Central Asia, and Terra Nostra, a 30-minute multimedia work composed by Christophe Chagnard exploring the impact of climate change. Terra Nostra will include poetry by Emily Siff and a film by Charlie Spears. The performance will take place at Morris Performing Arts Center in South Bend and will also be livestreamed. Alastair Willis is music director of the South Bend Symphony Orchestra.
