Musicians from the Tucson Symphony Orchestra will perform on May 14 at Music and Memories IX, a benefit being held at Grace St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Tucson to benefit under-insured cancer patients. TSO Associate Concertmaster Carla Ecker gathered professional musicians from the Tucson area to perform at the benefit, including TSO Principal Timpanist Kimberly Toscano and pianist Michael Dauphinais, who will join Ecker in Brahms’s Sonata No. 1 for Violin and Piano and David Liptak’s Shadower for Violin and Percussion. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Under-Insured Cancer Patients’ Endowment Fund of the Academy of Cancer Wellness, a charity established in 1995 whose aims are to provide funding for research toward promotion of cancer wellness and financial support for the working poor and under-insured cancer patients. The Music and Memories Concert Series began in 2003 shortly after the death of flutist Katherine Kitzmann, a University of Arizona School of Music doctoral student who had no insurance when she was diagnosed with cancer.
