An unsigned article in Friday’s (2/14) Want China Times (Taiwan) reports, “Classical music fans in Taiwan can look forward a bumper year in 2014, when six world-class orchestras are scheduled to visit the country, starting with the New York Philharmonic in February. Led by Musical Director Alan Gilbert, the New York Philharmonic will perform Feb. 18-19 at the National Concert Hall.… They will be followed by a visit from the London Symphony Orchestra in March, conducted by Daniel Harding. The orchestra will perform at the National Concert Hall March 6 and at Jhide Hall in Kaohsiung the following day.… Later in the year, the Philadelphia Orchestra, led by French Canadian conductor Yannick Nezet-Seguin, will entertain music fans in June with concerts in Taipei and Tainan. [They will be] followed in October, with American conductor Lorin Maazel leading the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, and Yuri Temirkanov conducting for the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic. Finally in December, there will be a visit from the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, also from Saint Petersburg, headed by conductor Valery Gergiev.”
