In Tuesday’s (3/25) Commercial-News (Danville, Illinois), Mary Kay Sweikar writes, “The Danville Symphony Orchestra will present ‘Americana: a Tribute to the American Farmer,’ ” on Saturday, with music including selections from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess and Kurt Weill’s Lady in the Dark. “To add a new dimension to the concert experience, the DSO will provide live video of the performers mixed with images of America projected on screens in the auditorium,” giving the audience the opportunity to “see more facial expressions and will hopefully add a useful dimension to the musical experience,” according to DSO conductor Jeremy Swerling.… “Harmonica virtuoso Robert Bonfiglio … will join the orchestra for performances of a Stephen Foster medley and ‘Three American Sketches for Harmonica and Strings’ by famed Beatles producer George Martin…. Vermilion County has more than 1,000 farms, and farming is an integral part of life for many other communities across the United States.… ‘These are things that we sometimes take for granted,’ Staci Walker, DSO executive director, said. ‘The Danville Symphony Orchestra takes great pride in recognizing the hard work and dedication of the American farmer with this concert.’ ”
