“Belgrade-born Vladimir Kulenovic, 34, has been named the new conductor and artistic director of the Lake Forest Symphony” in Illinois, writes Dorothy Andries in Monday’s (6/2) Sun-Times (Chicago). Kulenovic, who received a three-year contract, “will conduct all but one of the [orchestra’s] concerts in the current five-concert season…. Henry Fogel, dean of the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University and former president of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra … served as a consultant to the Lake Forest Symphony Orchestra during its search. ‘They have chosen someone whom I believe has the potential of becoming a conductor of genuine importance at an international level in the not-too-distant future,’ he said of Kulenovic.… Currently, Kulenovic is the associate conductor of the Utah Symphony and resident conductor of the Belgrade Philharmonic…. In March of next year will conduct a series of education and family concerts with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra…. He is the recipient of multiple prizes, including … the prestigious Sir Georg Solti Career Grant in 2012, 2013 and 2014.” Kulenovic was one of six conductors who participated in the League of American Orchestras’ Bruno Walter National Conductor Preview hosted by the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra in March 2013.
