MATTHEW VANBESIEN, executive director of the New York Philharmonic since September 2012, has been named president of the orchestra by its Board of Directors, a title that recognizes his distinguished leadership and dedication to the organization. He will retain the title executive director, and his responsibilities as administrative head of the Philharmonic remain unchanged. Chairman Gary W. Parr said in a statement that VanBesien’s “forward-looking ideas and efforts coupled with his profound respect for our musicians, board, staff, and volunteers are creating a solid path into the future for our institution.”
