Boston University Tanglewood Institute, a program of BU’s School of Music that provides summer training for high school age musicians at the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s Tanglewood Music Center, has appointed HILARY FIELD RESPASS executive director. She goes to the institute from The Hartt School at the University of Hartford (Conn.), where she had served as director of the school’s Community Division since 2010. Prior to that she held various posts at Boston’s New England Conservatory, including executive director for preparatory and continuing education and head of operations and institutional planning. From 2002 to 2006, Respass (then known as Hilary Field) was director of artistic and management services for the League of American Orchestras, responsible for such activities as the Orchestra Management Fellowship Program, Ford Made in America, and the Music Alive composer-in-residence program. She had earlier spent two years as director of operations at Aspen Music Festival and School. Respass holds degrees in music education and clarinet performance from New England Conservatory.
