The New England Philharmonic, an all-volunteer orchestra based in Boston, will open its 2014-15 season with an October 25 program featuring world premieres by Bernard Hoffer and composer in residence David Rakowski. At the concert, entitled “Shall We Dance?,” Music Director Richard Pittman will lead Rakowski’s Dance Episodes, an NEP commission, and Hoffer’s Ligeti Split, as well as György Ligeti’s Ramifications, Ravel’s La Valse, and Stravinsky’s Capriccio for Piano and Orchestra, with soloist Randall Hodgkinson. Concerts in December, March, and May will include Michael Gandolfi’s Night Train to Perugia, John Harbison’s Darkbloom: Overture for an Imagined Opera, Benjamin Britten’s Spring Symphony with the Boston Children’s Chorus and Chorus Pro Musica; Matthew Browne’s How the Solar System Was Won, and the world premiere of Andy Vores’s Violin Concerto No. 2, written for and performed by Danielle Maddon, NEP’s concertmaster.
