“The Boston Symphony Orchestra announced details of its upcoming summer season at Tanglewood, including plans to mark the 75th anniversary of the Tanglewood Music Center,” its academy for advanced musical training, writes Jeremy Eichler in Thursday’s (11/13) Boston Globe. “Andris Nelsons, in his first summer season as music director, will lead the TMC Orchestra, the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, and additional forces in a performance of Mahler’s epic Eighth Symphony,” to be webcast live. “Nelsons will also lead the BSO in Mahler’s Sixth Symphony and Shostakovich’s Tenth Symphony, works by Haydn, Strauss, Mendelssohn, and Beethoven,” and more than 30 newly commissioned works during the Festival of Contemporary Music from July 20 to 27. “Among the guest conductors will be Christoph von Dohnanyi, Charles Dutoit, and Michael Tilson Thomas…. Stéphane Denève will return with an organ-themed program, Ludovic Morlot will lead a work by John Luther Adams, and Bramwell Tovey will conduct Act I of Puccini’s Tosca. This year’s Ozawa Hall programming will feature Mark Morris Dance Group, the Knights, Apollo’s Fire, and the Emerson String Quartet.” The BSO’s final 2015 Tanglewood concert on August 16 will open with Asher Fisch leading the TMC Orchestra in Copland’s Symphonic Ode and the BSO in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
