“The Sioux City Symphony Orchestra (SCSO) was presented the prestigious Friend of Education Award on Monday, by the Sioux City Community School District,” reads an unsigned article in Sunday’s (12/14) Sioux City Journal (Iowa). “The SCSO, as a part of its educational outreach programs, provides a 4th-, and a 6th-grade Concert for Young Audiences at no cost to Siouxland area schools. Participating school districts provide bus transportation to these ‘sold-out’ youth concerts. The concerts each host 2,500 students per performance in the Orpheum Theatre. Additionally, the SCSO has three ensembles; Woodwind, Brass, and String, who each perform for third- to fifth-graders in all of the Sioux City elementary schools. The Ensembles in the Schools program gives students the opportunity to experience a wide variety of live music and interact directly with Symphony musicians.”
