In Thursday’s (2/12) Stage News (U.K.), Matthew Hemley reports that Wigmore Hall “is to undergo a £2 million refurbishment that will see the creation of new rehearsal spaces and enable the building to stream and broadcast its work. The London venue will begin its refurbishment in March, with the bulk of the work carried out during its usual August closure. Artistic director John Gilhooly explained that the refurbishment would see backstage areas updated, so that ‘artists, staff, project participants and audiences will benefit from … new purpose-built working environments.’ He said this would include new flexible rehearsal spaces, and secondary glazing to prevent tuning issues that have previously arisen due to fluctuating temperatures between the hall and the backstage areas. In addition, the work will mean events can be streamed to anyone with an internet connection. ‘Following this year’s building work, Wigmore Hall will be fully equipped to stream, broadcast, record and present our work digitally, whether performances, masterclasses, talks, learning events or more,’ he said, adding that further details would be revealed later in the year.”
