Boston Modern Orchestra Project’s final program of the 2015-16 season, “Blizzard Voices,” will feature compositions by John Harbison, Paul Moravec, and Stephanie Ann Boyd, a 24-year-old New England Conservatory master’s student and winner of the 2014-15 BMOP/NEC Composition Competition. The March 5 concert at Boston’s Jordan Hall will include the world premiere of Boyd’s Ondine, which Boyd says is taken from the Gaelic legend of a beautiful water spirit that leads men into the sea to drown. “I think that Ondine’s tale is a sad one, not one of some vengeful feminine spirit,” says Boyd. “I decided to interpret her story as one of solitude, despair and confusion, but ultimately self-redemption.” Also on the program will be Harbison’s Concerto for Bass Viol, featuring Boston Symphony Orchestra Principal Bass Edwin Barker; and the Boston premiere of Moravec’s oratorio The Blizzard Voices, a musical setting of Ted Kooser’s poetry collection of the same name, with the NEC Concert Choir. BMOP serves as an affiliate orchestra of the New England Conservatory.
