The Burlington-based Vermont Symphony Orchestra has appointed CHARLES SMITH interim executive director; he succeeds ALAN JORDAN, who has stepped down to pursue other orchestra management opportunities after serving as the VSO’s executive director for sixteen years. Smith, a resident of Burlington, owns and operates Charles P. Smith Management and Strategic Consulting, where he most recently worked with Vermont PBS on team building, strategic planning, and managing the company’s transition to a new president and CEO. He had a lengthy career in sales and marketing for commercial banking at Key Bank in Vermont; was a state official in the administration of Vermont Governor Jim Douglas; served as president of the Snelling Center for Government (Williston, Vt.); and holds board positions with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont, Vermont Energy Investment Corporation, and United Way of Chittenden County.
