“In the wake of David Geffen’s $100 million gift toward the $500 million transformation of Avery Fisher Hall, many have wondered how Lincoln Center and the New York Philharmonic would go about trying to raise the rest of such a daunting budget,” writes Robin Pogrebin in Tuesday’s (6/8) New York Times. “On Monday, Lincoln Center … announced that it was hiring a New York City cultural executive, Vin Cipolla, the president of the Municipal Art Society of New York, to direct the capital campaign for the soon-to-be-named David Geffen Hall…. Cipolla will report to Lincoln Center, which shares fund-raising responsibility for the project with the Philharmonic. He will stay on as president of the Municipal Arts Society board, until it names a replacement. His previous leadership positions have included significant fund-raising for organizations like the National Park Foundation, where Mr. Cipolla served as president and chief executive, and at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, where he served as chairman and president. Construction on David Geffen Hall is scheduled to begin in 2019.”
