On August 23, Colorado’s Grand Junction Symphony will perform its annual “Evening Under the Stars,” a free concert held this year for the first time at Stocker Stadium, where the minor-league Grand Junction Rockies play. The concert will be held immediately following the Rockies’ 4pm baseball game. GJSO Music Director Kirk Gustafson will throw out the ceremonial first pitch, and the national anthem will be performed by musicians from the orchestra. Following the game, on the 50-yard line on the stadium’s west side, the concert will begin with patriotic tunes performed by the Grand Junction Centennial Band. Gustafson will then lead the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra in a program including Casey at the Bat and a medley from Jesus Christ Superstar, as well as patriotic selections such as the “Armed Forces Salute,” “Yankee Doodle,” and the “Semper Fi” March. Half of proceeds from sales at Grand Junction Rockies concession stands will be donated to the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra.
