In Wednesday’s (8/19) Fort Worth Star-Telegram , Andrew Marton reports, “The Van Cliburn Foundation said Wednesday that it had hired Janice Mayer as its new director of artistic planning and communication, filling two recently vacated positions. Mayer, 51, who assumes her new position Sept. 1, will lead the artist management and public relations-marketing divisions of the Cliburn. Both jobs had been open since the midsummer departures of longtime general manager Maria Guralnik and Sevan Melikyan, director of marketing and public relations. Mayer’s duties will include promoting the series of Cliburn Concerts and handling all media relations. Her main artist management role will involve overseeing the early career development of the winners of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. … For 11 years ending in 2006, Mayer was head of Janice Mayer & Associates, an international artist management firm that handled 36 classical singers, conductors and composers. ‘Not only does she have outstanding experience in the nurturing of young artist careers but she brings great experience in marketing and public relations,’ said Alann Sampson, board chairwoman of the Cliburn Foundation. ‘She had the vision of putting both positions together and we saw how dynamic that could be.’ ”
