On October 17, the Chicago Sinfonietta will honor its founding conductor, Paul Freeman (1936-2015), at a special event, “The Global Maestro Remembered” at Lund Auditorium at Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois. The event begins at 11 a.m. and is free and open to the public. Performers and speakers will include members of the Chicago Sinfonietta; pianists Leon Bates and Jeremy Jordan; soprano Elizabeth Sojourner; Dominican University President Donna Carroll; founding Sinfonietta board chair Jim Paglia; and WFMT Station Manager Steve Robinson. At each Sinfonietta concert this season, audience members will be encouraged to step into a video booth during intermission and after concerts to share stories and memories about Paul Freeman and the Sinfonietta as part of its “1,000 Stories Project.” The stories will be used in a film by Chicago-based filmmaker Manny Velazquez, to be shown in June. During the Chicago Sinfonietta’s 2015-16 season, entitled “Paul Freeman: Season of Celebration,” the orchestra will also present two world premieres in honor of Freeman, who passed away in July.
