The New York Philharmonic’s season-opening concert, led by incoming Music Director Alan Gilbert, will be aired on a Live from Lincoln Center telecast on September 16. The concert, at 7:30 p.m. at Avery Fisher Hall, will be hosted by Alec Baldwin and will feature soprano Renée Fleming in Messiaen’s Poèmes pour mi. Also on the program are Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique and the world premiere of EXPO, an overture by the Philharmonic’s composer-in-residence, Magnus Lindberg, written especially for the occasion of Gilbert’s first concert as the orchestra’s new music director. Alec Baldwin is the 2009-10 host of The New York Philharmonic This Week, a year-long series of national radio broadcasts of Philharmonic concerts. As in previous years, on the morning of the concert the Philharmonic will hold a free public orchestra rehearsal at Avery Fisher Hall at 9:45 a.m.
