“The first feature-length documentary about the Boston Marathon will include music performed by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the filmmakers said Thursday,” writes Mark Shanahan in Thursday’s (2/11) Boston Globe. “In town to meet with sponsors and supporters of the film, titled ‘Boston,’ producers Megan Williams and Eleanor Bingham Miller and director Jon Dunham said the BSO has agreed to participate. The orchestra hasn’t recorded music for movies often—‘Mystic River’ is one soundtrack that does feature the BSO—but for the Marathon documentary it will record music being composed by Jeff Beal, an Emmy-nominated composer whose credits include the film ‘Pollock’ and the TV series ‘House of Cards’ and ‘The Newsroom.’ Scheduled to premiere in Boston in April 2017, ‘Boston’ will tell the story of the historic road race dating to its origin in 1897, paying particular attention to the participation of women runners. (This year marks the 50th anniversary of women being allowed to run.)”
