The Grand Junction (Colo.) Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of CHARLES LATSHAW as music director, effective with the 2016-17 season. He will succeed KIRK GUSTAFSON, who is retiring as music director following a 28-year tenure. Latshaw, who guest conducted the Grand Junction Symphony in February of this year and was selected from nearly 160 applicants for the music director post, is currently director of orchestral studies and the Kent-Blossom Music Festival at Ohio’s Kent State University. He has served as artistic director and conductor of the Bloomington (Ind.) Symphony Orchestra, and has held conducting positions with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, and Washington, D.C.’s Arts Nova Chamber Orchestra and Washington Sinfonietta. Latshaw holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in instrumental conducting from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.
