“More than 300 Milwaukee-area business and community leaders had quite the view of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Friday evening as they got to sit on stage to hear up close its playing of Brahms’ symphonies,” writes Mark Kass in Monday’s (5/9) Milwaukee Business Journal. “The Symphony Soirée at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Milwaukee is the MSO’s annual fundraising gala and allowed guests to get a closer view of conductor Edo de Waart’s baton as he cued the musicians just in front of them. MSO’s Mark Niehaus walked through the orchestra with a microphone, explaining each piece of music and highlighting many of the orchestra’s musicians and the instruments they play…. Niehaus interviewed several musicians, allowing them to explain the music, their favorite parts of Brahms’ symphonies and to have some fun with the audience. [Concertmaster] Frank Almond spent time talking about his passion for the music and how he plays his parts in the overall piece. After the hour-long concert, guests attended a dinner at the Marcus Center…. The event was popular on Twitter.” Included is a 20-photo slideshow from the event.
