“The Orlando Philharmonic has named Christopher Barton as its new executive director,” writes Richard Bilbao in Friday’s (6/3) Orlando Business Journal (Florida). He succeeds David Schillhammer, who stepped down as executive director in February. “Barton will take over after serving as the executive director for the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra in Flagstaff, Ariz., since 2014…. His resume also includes working for the College of Arts and Architecture at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, N.C., the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra and the North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center…. ‘After a national search, we are thrilled to welcome Chris to the Orlando Philharmonic family,’ said Michael Elsberry, president of the Philharmonic board.… ‘We know his leadership, new ideas and great energy will help drive the orchestra to great heights.’ ” Said Barton, “I am thrilled to be joining the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra as its next executive director…. The Philharmonic has incredible momentum and creative potential right now. With Eric Jacobsen as music director, a permanent home at The Plaza Live, and the support of a dynamic and growing community, this orchestra can accomplish anything.” Barton will arrive in Orlando in late July.
