During its recent tour of Italy and Greece, Yale University’s concert band performed a free concert on June 1 for Afghan and Syrian refugees at Eleonas Refugee Camp in Athens, Greece, led by Music Director Thomas Duffy. Duffy said, “The Yale Concert Band is humbled to have the opportunity to perform at the Eleonas Refugee Camp in Athens. We hope that our music can help to drown out the sounds of a world gone mad with war.” The performance at the refugee camp was arranged by Yale Concert Band together with the tour company Classical Movements, Inc. In addition to the Athens performance, the band’s May 24-June 4 tour included free concerts in Rome, Bologna, Urbino, and Delphi, Italy, and collaborations with Rome-based MuSa Chorus & MuSas Jazz Big Band and Bologna’s Coro del Collegium Musicum.
