The Detroit Symphony Orchestra has announced the appointment of ORIOL SANS as music director of the Detroit Symphony Youth Orchestra, premier orchestra in the DSO’s Civic Youth Ensembles program. An assistant professor of music at the University of Michigan, Sans has conducted the Detroit Symphony, the Santa Fe Symphony, the New Mexico Philharmonic, Colorado’s San Juan Symphony, and the Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco in Guadalajara, Mexico. He studied orchestral and choral conducting at the Barcelona Conservatory in his native Spain, and earned master’s and doctoral degrees in orchestral conducting from the University of Michigan.
