Sunday’s (8/14) Post-Crescent (Wisconsin) includes an opinion piece by Oliver Zornow, community engagement manager of the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra. “In the arts community there is a lot of conversation around accessibility,” writes Zornow. “Our entire community, including our arts organizations, needs to seek out ways to ensure continued accessibility for this rapidly expanding demographic” of adults over age 65. “For those who are unable to attend concerts at the [Fox Cities Performing Arts Center], the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra is launching several new initiatives…. The Fox Valley Symphony Senior Outreach Series is an exciting new partnership with senior living communities and Home Instead Senior Care where small groups of symphony musicians perform free concerts that are open to the general public…. The symphony is partnering with the Building for Kids Children’s Museum on a program called Spark! for people living with memory loss and their caregivers.… Many other organizations are also taking special efforts to reach people living with memory loss.… Cost is only one of many barriers to arts participation.”
