Ohio’s Canton Symphony Orchestra will host “An American in Paris Meets a Viennese in Hollywood,” a free public discussion on October 10 led by writer Donald Rosenberg. Rosenberg is editor of EMAg, the magazine of Early Music America, former music critic of Cleveland’s Plain Dealer, and a frequent contributor to Symphony magazine, among other publications. The discussion is tied to the Canton Symphony’s October 29 program at Umstattd Performing Arts Hall, led by Music Director Gerhardt Zimmermann and featuring Victor Herbert’s American Fantasy; Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s Violin Concerto in D Major, with soloist Jinjoo Cho; Gershwin’s An American in Paris; and Bernstein’s On the Waterfront. The October 10 discussion is part of the Canton Symphony’s ConverZations series of free public discussions through April 2017. Among the other speakers for 2016-17 ConverZations are Michelle Mullaly, president and CEO, Canton Symphony Orchestra; M. J. Albacete, former executive director, Canton Museum of Art; Tom Pylinski, principal trombone, Canton Symphony Orchestra; and Grant Cook, director of choral activities, University of Mount Union.
