The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra has announced the appointment of JOACHIM BECERRA THOMSEN as principal flute, effective January 21, 2017. A native of Denmark, Thomsen, 21, is the youngest musician ever appointed to a principal chair at LACO. He will succeed DAVID SHOSTAC, who retired as principal flute last May after 41 years with the orchestra. Thomsen has performed throughout Denmark as a soloist and chamber musician, and goes to Los Angeles after serving as principal flute in the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Copenhagen’s Royal Danish Academy of Music and is currently pursuing a professional studies certificate at the Colburn School in Los Angeles.
