On November 10 at the rotunda of the Idaho State Capitol in Boise, the Idaho State-Civic Symphony received a 2016 Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts from Governor Butch Otter and First Lady Lori Otter. Other recipients of the biennial award were theater director/designer Michael Baltzell, singer/songwriter Steve Eaton, and actor/director John Glenn. Governor’s Awards were also given for Excellence in Folk and Traditional Arts, Support of the Arts, Support of Arts Education, Excellence in Arts Administration, and Exceptional Service. The Idaho State-Civic Symphony performs in Pocatello and southeastern Idaho and has a youth orchestra; it also operates a summer institute for piano and strings. Grant Harville is the orchestra’s artistic director, and Heather Clarke is executive director.
