The musicians of California’s Monterey Symphony have agreed to a one-year extension of the final year of their contract with no change in terms or conditions. The current contract expired on August 31, 2009. Compensation rates will be frozen at last year’s level with a base rate of $100 for a two-and-a-half-hour service. The orchestra reported that both musicians and management agreed that economic uncertainties made it difficult to project growth in earned or contributed revenue during the upcoming concert season. The talks, which took place at the American Federation of Musicians, Local 153 offices in San Jose, were described as amicable and settled after less than an hour and a half of discussion. Monterey Symphony’s subscription season begins on October 17 with Music Director Max Bragado-Darman leading Chris and Dave Brubeck’s Ansel Adams: America, performed before projected images by photographer Ansel Adams, who was a longtime resident of the Monterey Peninsula.
